Extra budget for Regional Investment Project Grants (BSRI) in 2010

Minister of Economic Affairs Van der Hoeven approved the new BSRI scheme with extra budget for the remainder of 2010 fixed at Eur 10.4 million. The new scheme came into force on publication in the Government Gazette on 6 July 2010. Some conditions of the scheme have been changed, however, it still qualifies to the same designated areas in the northern and southeastern provinces of the Netherlands.

Description
The BSRI is one of the economic policy instruments of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. This instrument aims to strengthen regions with a weaker economic structure, the so-called core zones. By offering subsidies to companies that invest in these core zones, the government tries to channel foreign direct investment toward these areas. The focus is primarily on the establishment of new businesses. However, major investment projects that involve a fundamental change in products or production processes and strategic expansion projects may also be subsidized.

Contribution
Investment costs qualifying for grants include costs incurred in the acquisition of land, buildings, and durable equipment (all amounts mentioned are rounded-down figures).
